SRA workshop series: How to use modelling as decision support
Do you want to learn more about how to relate your research to sustainable development and initiate collaborations with researchers in other fields? The Strategic Research Areas, in collaboration with Sustainability Forum, is arranging a series of workshops with focus on the Sustainable Development Goals, during 2021. This workshop is the second within the theme Future-oriented methodologies.
This workshop will deepen the question of why we need modelling. To understand the complexity in different societal challenges as well as finding system solutions, modelling is a powerful tool. However, to develop new approaches for cross-disciplinary problems we need to understand and listen to each other over disciplinary borders. To get a sense of these potentials, the workshop will introduce different area for modelling; further investigate the aims, benefits, risks and limitations. The workshop will further offer the opportunity to discuss how to organise research within Lund University to understand what and how we can learn from each other and get new insights.
Three topics will be covered during the workshop:
- Prognostic health modelling
- Modelling of industrial development
- Climate and vegetation modelling
The workshop will end with an interactive panel discussion and provide an opportunity to raise questions.
More information regarding the program will provided closer to the workshop.
The workshop is arranged in collaboration with the Strategic Research Areas SPI, EpiHealth and BECC.
Aim of the workshop series
As the climate and other planetary crises escalate, there is a need to develop the SRA’s to better meet the societal challenges and to find solutions to achieve a socially, environmentally and economically sustainable development worldwide.
The aim of the workshops is to develop work processes of common interest, exchange experiences and strengthen sustainability collaboration between research areas, as well as to create a broader reflection on sustainability issues at Lund university and in society. The sustainable development goals can in this context function as a common language connecting academic activities with policy goals.
Workshops will mainly target researchers, doctoral students and research coordinators/administrators from the Strategic Research Areas, but the workshops will be open to all staff within Lund University.
