11 open doctoral positions in NanoLund

Exciting research for PhD students is waiting ahead. Co-funded by EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, we are now opening as many as 11 projects in nanoscience and nanotechnology – in physics, chemistry and biomedicine – for application.

Initial deadline for applications: May 4, 2020

Candidates can freely apply for one or more of the following projects:

Materials science

  • Smart nanomaterials for green-tech applications
  • Characterization of functional nanostructured magnetic materials
  • Advanced nanostructures for photon detection and sustainable energy generation

Quantum physics and nanobiophysics

  • Building electronic devices that use information as fuel
  • Ultrafast spectroscopy for new solar energy solutions
  • Biomarker detection by optical sensing with nanowires
  • Morphology and virulence among bacteria
  • Multiscale biomechanics from molecules to cells in cancer

Chemistry and biomedicine

  • Solubility of amyloid beta peptide (up to two positions)
  • Nanoparticles in the brain: multitalented drug carriers to target neurodegenerative disease

About us: NanoLund, the Center for Nanoscience at Lund University

The doctoral positions will be hosted by one of the research groups in NanoLund, the Center for Nanoscience at Lund University. Engaging more than 50 research groups in the faculties of engineering, sciences and medicine at  Lund University, and with more than 130 PhD students, we are Sweden largest environment in nanoscience. One of our guiding principles is to be a Great Place to do Nanoscience: to be an international, highly visible nanoscience center that offers exceptional scientific opportunities, training, and career development. We do this through a strong culture of openness and by offering access to a wide range of state-of-the-art capabilities within characterization, nanofabrication and modelling.

What we offer:

All candidates will be engaged in frontline research in basic and/or applied sciences, and will receive training through courses in scientific as well as in transferable skills. We are offering a highly collaborative research environment, as well as an international network of cooperation partners from industry, academy and public authorities. We offer full-time employment for four years.

Who are you?

  • You have a recent degree in physics, chemistry, bio-medicine, biochemistry or a related field.
  • You are enthusiastic about tackling research problems and can work independently. 
  • You enjoy interdisciplinary research and take keen interest in learning and working in teams.
